Annabooks Releases A New Computer Science Book

This newly released Book is a practical guide for learning Java, Eclipse, and Computer Science.

Yorba Linda, Calif., September 28, 2018 – Annabooks is pleased to announce the release of a new book titled Java and Eclipse for Computer Science, written by Sean D. Liming and John R. Malin. Almost every job today has some interaction with a computer or a computing device. Computers come in all shapes and sizes such as smartphones, ATM machines, thermostats, test equipment, robotics, point-of-sale systems, cloud servers, projection systems, and, personal computers. All of them need to be designed, built, and programmed. Having a good understanding of computer programming and Computer Science can provide a good foundation for one’s career. The Java programming language is one of the most popular programming languages used today, and it is widely taught in high schools and universities as an introduction to Computer Science.

“Teacher lead instruction is pedagogical for most school subjects. Computer Science can be instructor-led as well, but programming is really a learn-by-doing exercise that each individual must perform,” says Sean Liming, co-author. “After reviewing various Computer Science teaching materials, we set out to fill a need that addresses the core introduction curriculum of Computer Science using Java and real-world development tools that employers are looking for.”

The goal of this textbook is to combine Java programming, Computer Science, and a popular development tool that not only prepares you for the Computer Science curriculum but also beyond the classroom into your professional career. The 14 chapters start with the basics of how Algebra flows into computer programming, moves on to logical program flow, and then to Object Oriented Programming. After these fundamentals come the advanced topics of recursion, search, sort, and Big-O notation. Then going beyond the basic curriculum material, the later chapters cover graphical programming with JavaFX, File I/O, an introduction to data structures, and finishes with JavaFX 2-D Game development. There are many computer activities to provide a hands-on experience right from the beginning to keep you involved during the reading of this book.

The printed edition is priced at $99.95 and the eBook edition is priced at $84.95. The eBook edition is now available on Amazon Kindle, and the printed edition will be available in a couple months.

SJJ Embedded Micro Solutions is Named Distributor for Sofa King Software’s SecureBus™

SecureBus™ adds USB firewall protection for Windows® Embedded Standard 7

May 25, 2012, Yorba Linda, Calif. – Sofa King Software signs SJJ Embedded Microsoft Solutions as exclusive distributor for SecureBus™. Developed by Sofa King Software, SecureBus™ is a patent pending security product that acts like a firewall for USB host ports. SecureBus™ works by injecting itself under the Window® Kernel.  Any time a USB device is plugged into the system; SecureBus™ will analyze the hardware and determine if it is an authorized USB device.  If the device is not an authorized USB device, then SecureBus™ will prevent it from binding with the Windows® Kernel.  The SecureBus™ application allows you to add devices to the whitelist so they can be connected to the system or remove devices that you no long wish to allow connectivity with.

“Open USB ports have been a security concern for many of our customers,” says Sean Liming, owner of SJJ Embedded Micro Solutions, “There have been enterprise solutions, but nothing available for standalone systems. Working with Sofa King Software, we developed a filter solution that is similar to the embedded enabling features in the Windows® Embedded products.”

SecureBus™ is ideal for OEMs building embedded systems such as medical test equipment, security systems, military equipment, point-of-service applications, gaming systems, and much more. With the ability to lock USB ports, SecureBus™ can assist with DIACAP and PCI compliances.

“HIPAA compliance has been a huge concern for all medical device manufacturers,” says David Picco, owner of Sofa King Software, “SecureBus™ can be used to authorize Encrypted USB Flash drives to connect to a system, and keep out other USB flash disks.”

SecureBus™ supports the following operating systems:

  • Microsoft® Windows XP with SP3 or higher (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • Microsoft® Windows XP Embedded
  • Microsoft® Windows Vista (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • Microsoft® Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • Microsoft® Windows Embedded Standard 7(32-bit or 64-bit)

A free 14 day trial is available. The trial allows you to test and preconfigure the system. A kit for $399.95 and a per unit runtime license is required for full distribution.

SJJ and EMAC Join Forces to Create a Development Kit for Microsoft's .NET Micro Framework

New development kit offers a low cost simple solution for developers wanting to write code in C#.

Embedded Systems Conference, Boston , Mass. , Sept 26, 2006 – SJJ Embedded Micro Solutions, LLC and EMAC, INC are pleased to announce a joint development effort to create a development kit for Microsoft's .NET Micro Framework. The new .Net Micro Framework development kit (NDK) will feature EMAC's iPac 524 Single Board Computer (SBC) running the .NET Micro Framework. The kit will also contain an instruction manual, sample source code, and other tools to allow engineers and students to develop applications with managed code.

The .NET Micro Framework contains a tinyCLR that acts as a mini kernel to run managed code applications. Developers can write C# applications in Visual Studio and just download to the iPac 524. Developers only need to focus on application development since the OS has already been ported.

“Having worked with Windows CE and XP Embedded, the .NET Micro Framework represents a major push for deeply embedded systems and shows Microsoft's continued interest in the embedded market”, says Sean Liming, Managing Director of SJJ Embedded Micro Solutions, “We are excited about working with Microsoft and EMAC, Inc to develop the new development kit.”

The iPac 524 features the SHARP 79524 ARM processor in a PC/104 form factor. The board contains a wide variety of I/O to meet any application: RS-232, 10 A/D channels, 16 digital GPIO lines, 8 High-Drive digital output lines, 3 multi-purpose I/O lines (GP/Counters/PWM), 5 Synchronous Serial I/O lines (GP/SPP/SPI/I2S), SD/MMC Flash, Graphic LCD interface, 10/100 Ethernet, and USB 2.0 Device.

“The SHARP 79524 offers the best feature set of any ARM7 processor, and is ideal for the .NET Micro Framework”, says Eric Rossi, President of EMAC, Inc. “The NDK is perfect for engineers and students looking to develop deeply embedded applications that require a low cost hardware platform. It provides the user with a starting point for developing .NET MF applications for the iPac 524 SBC.”

The NDK can be used to develop a variety of applications from robotics to industrial controls. Microsoft will also purchase several hundred-development kits for their own internal use.

"We are pleased to have SJJ and EMAC produce a low-cost board to add to the growing set of platform choices for developers on the .NET Micro Framework," said Colin Miller, Director, .NET Micro Framework. "What makes this product unique is that they have elected to make a board that will be very attractive to students and hobbyists, as well as other developers.

The training kit will include step-by-step exercises. The NDK will have a special introductory price of $129.00 USD. When released, the NDK can be purchased online at www.sjjmicro.com or contact via e-mail sales@sjjmicro.com . Additional information can be found on the iPac 524 at www.emacinc.com.
